Perhaps now you are in a difficult season — a time when you feel a desperate need to hear from God. Perhaps you are facing debt, sickness, depression, addiction, family problems, or something else that has led you into despair.

Whatever it is, God wants to lead you into a season of hope. He wants to replace debt with abundant prosperity, sickness with vibrant health, and depression with boundless joy.

Faithful Wednesday

This day has been such a wonderful day in the word of God. At noon today I went to a Bible Study sponsored by the company’s chief executive and led by Pastor Dane from First Baptist Church. Then at 7pm I went to the bible study at Christian Life Fellowship (CLF), where I congregate. Then at home I continued a dynamic study on the book of Daniel prepared by Beth Moore.

As you can imagine three different topics were presented at each study. Oftentimes I have found that the word of God all comes together and helps me pull through tough situations.

At work challenges have risen. One specifically is getting along with another person I work with. We all have different personalities. One thing I have learned from going to various bible studies is to seek godly counsel. This night I sought that counsel from the pastor leading the bible study at CLF.

After seeking godly counsel, you really don’t need to look anywhere else but the word of God. You see, a person that gives you godly counsel will be a person that has received Jesus Christ, the son of God, as Savior AND Jesus reigns as Lord over his or her life. Why? In one word, wisdom. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline” (Proverbs 1:7, NIV). According to John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

It is wise to choose Jesus. Romans 10:9 says “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” God’s will is that every man be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. (See the beginning of 1st Timothy Chapter 2). Jesus is God’s way to redeem mankind. Don’t worry if this is all not making sense to you at first. If you are in doubt or are curious about Jesus, I suggest checking out the eye-witness accounts from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

Wisdom and power belong to God. Check out Job 12:13. Lastly, 1st Corinthians 1:18-30 speaks about Jesus Christ being the wisdom and power of God.

Another quality of a person that gives godly counsel is he or she refers you back to God’s word. Their advice is practical and does not contradict the teachings found in the Bible. This person might mention their past experiences and possible outcomes based on what actions you take. Most importantly, this person will bring you back to the word of God to see what the Big Boss, in his infinite wisdom, has to say about the challenge and the best possible approach to take.

Last but not least, this godly person will pray for you then and there. No one that has a close relationship with God is ashamed to pray in front of others. Why? One thing that comes to mind is that they are always talking with God, praying all the time, in communion… At work, the elevator at the mall, at home, at the park. They are in constant communication with God. They are not monks, they are practical, they know what it takes to succeed by God’s definition. Prayer is powerful! Check out James 5:16. On prayer, the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

About my challenge at work. I feel at peace. No matter what happens I know that I spoke to God about it and surrendered the whole thing to Him. He’s in control and I will keep my faith in Him. So what was the pastor’s godly counsel? I will say that in the end he encouraged me, shared with me words of wisdom, we looked at 1st Peter 2:18-20 together (see below), and then prayed for me.

Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.

(In our modern times, slaves and masters can be replaced with employees and employers.)

I don’t expect to know it all. What I shared with you has been from my experience so far. Surely there are many more reasons why seeking godly counsel is best. Feel free to share them with me.

Make it an awesome week! Shalom.

It's a Boy!

The Lord continues to bless my family! On Monday, April 2, 2007 my first nephew, Elijah Immanuel Cruz, was born. He is healthy and has brought joy to our family. I have a feeling he is going to be spoiled. :) It’s a season to celebrate. Blessed be the name of the Lord!
